Cities can monitor the progress of the implementation plan according to the designated indicators. Implementation indicators can be a percent of the action achieved, or be more specific. For instance, indicators to support Washington DC’s sustainability goal for increased urban density include increasing affordable housing and restricting parking surfaces for large developments.

Cities can also monitor the outcomes of actions over time. Outcomes can be GHG emissions reductions and other benefits like jobs created or financial savings.
