Enabling Safe Commutes for School Children: Case of Rohtak, Haryana

Enabling Safe Commutes for School Children: Case of Rohtak, Haryana

June 25, 2019
03:00 pm - 04:00 pm (Asia/Kolkata, UTC+5:30)

The World Health Organization estimates that 224 children around the world lose their lives in road traffic crashes every day. A report by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways released in 2017 estimates that 25 children die on Indian roads every day. Every life counts, and losing so many young ones to a wholly avoidable catastrophe is not only devastating for families, but also a great loss to the nation.

This webinar aims to bring the issue of safer roads for children to the forefront of road safety deliberations. Through a case study of an ongoing project, the webinar aims to showcase how Rohtak is reducing crash risks around schools and enabling safer commutes for the city’s children.

The information presented will be relevant for city administrations, engineering departments, traffic police, architects, urban design professionals, and policy makers.

Thank you for sharing the content. It is really commendable to see a firm like WRI working towards improving children's mobility experience. I hope the methodology adopted here can be scaled up and used to assess other metropolitan cities of India.
