TOD & Road Safety / Session 2 / Assessing and Enabling Road Safety for TOD

BOOKMARK

This workshop is the second session in a four-part series highlighting the importance of road safety, in Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) projects, through the Five-Step process and Safe System approach.

This session talks about the first two stages of the TOD framework – Assess and Enable from a road safety perspective. Road crash assessment of a city can be used to determine the TOD readiness and advocate for dense urban development around transit nodes with lower usage of personal private vehicles and building reliance for non-motorized and public transportation modes. It is also necessary to create a supportive enabling environment for a TOD project that would further enhance road safety in the city.

This session also includes two case studies of World Bank TOD projects discussing the assess and enable stages for implementing TOD projects around BRT stations in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
